Delta Dental plans for Veterans: A guide

Navigating through insurance benefits can be challenging. But we’ve made it easy with this quick guide to Delta Dental plans for Veterans and their families.

Who’s eligible?

Veterans who are enrolled in VA health care and the spouses and dependent children who are enrolled in the VA’s Civilian Health and Medical Program (CHAMPVA) are eligible for VADIP. Check eligibility today.

To enroll in VA health care or for VADIP eligibility questions, visit the Veterans Affairs website or call 877-222-VETS (8387). To learn more about the CHAMPVA eligibility, visit the CHAMPVA website.

For Veterans who have dependents who are not CHAMPVA enrollees and are not eligible for VADIP, Delta Dental’s Individual and Family™ dental plans may fit. Enrollment is open year-round. PPO plans are available in 16 states, and the DeltaCare® USA (HMO-type) plans are available in nine states.

NOTE: Federal employees who recently exited the workforce may be eligible for a VADIP plan if they are Veterans.

What benefits are available?

Delta Dental offers three VADIP plans to choose from based on needs and budget:

  • The Enhanced Plan is best for routine dental care. It covers common dental procedures such as diagnostic services, two cleanings, two exams, two fluoride treatments and X-rays every year. It also has the lowest monthly premium.
  • The Comprehensive Plan is best if you need additional dental work. It covers everything in the Enhanced Plan with additional coverage for procedures such as crowns and implants. The plan pays a maximum of $1,500 per year, and you don’t have to pay a deductible if you visit a provider in our network.
  • The Prime Plan is best if you need maximum coverage for major procedures. It covers everything in the Comprehensive Plan but has a higher annual maximum and the lowest out-of-pocket costs.

Can I keep my dentist?

VADIP plans are PPO plans, so you can visit any dentist. But you’ll save the most money if you choose a dentist in our vast nationwide network. With three out of four dentists in our combined networks,¹ chances are your dentist is already a Delta Dental dentist.
